Food Checkout Day is February 6. This year it will take the average American 37 days to pay for all the food he or she will eat in 2008. The average cost of food in America remains affordable.

According to the most recent information compiled by the USDA's Economic Research Service, American families and individuals spend, on average, less than 10 percent of their disposable personal income for food. That's the lowest rate in the world:

Applying this statistic to the calendar year means the average household will have earned enough money to pay for its annual food supply in about 37 days or five weeks.

To celebrate the affordability of food in America, Georgia Farm Bureau is joining America Farm Bureau in celebrating February 3-9, as Farm Bureau's Food Check-Out Week. To celebrate our country's safe and abundant food supply, Cobb County Farm Bureau is participating in a statewide Food Check-Out Week event. During January and early February Cobb County Farm will be accepting donations to assist the Ronald McDonald House of Central Georgia. For more information email us at CobbFCD@yahoo.com.
